Our first collaboration - Arvieland Creative Studio X Hadashi Studio

Arvieland Creative Studio X Hadashi Studio Collaboration

A meaningful journey

In a world full of connections and possibilities, creating in partnership is really very special, we feel it.

An artistic journey complicit in soul and vision.

Creative and artisanal expression only benefits when minds come together, combining skills and knowledge to give life to something unique and, hopefully, meaningful.

Hands and knowledge intertwine, eyes shine with enthusiasm and hearts beat eagerly to reveal the beauty of our creative and collaborative expression.

How did this collaboration start?

This wonderful idea came from the experienced Cristina Arvana, but both of us had already though of the possibility of collaborating.

We followed each other’s work on Instagram and was easy to see some common ground, and after the first meeting in person, there was no way going back, we had to do it!

If you want to know more about Cristina Arvana, check her detailed page.

What will we create?

In this collaboration Cristina Arvana (arvieland_textile_art) will explore linen and cotton canvas fabrics, bleaching and painting with tie-dye effects and block print technique. After that, me, Teresa (Hadashi Studio) will sew them into bags.

The colour palette will range from earthy tones to faded pastel greens and pinks, recreating both brands’ universes.

The combination of the simple and functional shape of Hadashi Studio bags with the visual art and surface design of Arvieland Creative Studio, will make each bag a unique piece, part of an very limited edition of bags.

Materials and techniques

“Sustainability” is something that we both have in mind, so the choice of materials was aligned (as much as possible) to this principle.

Regarding the fabrics used for the exterior of the bags, we are using 100% certified natural linen responsibly produced in Europe and some deadstock cotton canvas artisanally produced in Portugal. For the linings we are using deadstock linen. Vegetable-tanned leather is the choice for bag straps and decorative details. In some of the bags that were previously sewn and that will also be part of this project, some linings are calico (undyed and unbleached) and straps in cotton webbing (also undyed and unbleached).

The fabrics will be bleached and painted with some abstract tie-dye effect and block print technique, using non-toxic water based and cold dry serigraph inks, locally sourced.

Testing fabrics, colors and techniques - good things takes time.

Linen and cotton behave (or react) differently in contact with ink, according to they own characteristics (e.g.: cotton is more absorbent, is more flexible), so Cristina starting her creative process by testing colours and techniques in samples of both fabrics. Once they were “ready”, she took off to work on the bigger pieces of fabric.

Other than the creative process of thinking the design and matching colours, testing how fabrics behave with ink and the possibilities that provides (or constrains) in terms of creation is a time-consuming process. That´s why we say, “Good things takes time”.

The fabrics ready to sew.

On the table are nine different types of (let´s call it) unique “patterned” fabrics that will turn into nine unique and unrepeatable bags. In linen and canvas, we have some with abstract shades in bleach stains, and others are stamped with leaves, Colors range from brown to faded shades of greens and pinks. After fabrics are painted and stamped, it was time to sew them into bags.

A sneack peek...?

While we are still in the process of making the bags, we´ve prepared some mock-ups for you to get an idea of the end result.

Please note that the real design of the bag is not represented in these pictures (it will be a bit different, more like our Midi bags), but you can see the real fabric.

We will be updating this blog post “as we go”, so stay tuned.
